Elisabeth Plank

* 1960

Elisabeth Plank (b. 1960, Wels) studied with Oswald Oberhuber at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna from 1979 to 1984. In 1983, she started painting large-format abstract pictures (Großes Bild mit Lila) and, from 1986, allegories, which were her first reflections on figures as a pictorial vocabulary.

The artist focuses on the vocabulary of painting and the structure of pictures. She is always concerned with a visual pictorial process that addresses the elements of painting itself. Since 1980, she has participated in numerous exhibitions in Austria and abroad and has created works in public spaces. Plank received grants to work in New York (1991) and Tokyo (1992). In 2011, the artist curated the painting exhibition today is tomorrow together with Josef Ramaseder. Since March 2022, she has been managing Ramaseder’s estate.
