Arnulf Rainer - Prints

The Galerie Ruberl presents a special exhibition featuring graphic works by artist Arnulf Rainer from December 2023 to February 2024. The particular focus is on three portfolios from the years 1961, 1963, and 1971. The titled series "Überdeckungen," "Haute Coiffure," and "Acht Masken" provide insight into Rainer's skill in drypoint etching. Rainer utilizes drypoint etching to explore entanglements, overlays, and the transition between strokes, sharp lines, and smudged tones. The precise execution of the border design, whether through compact strokes or feathering, reflects Rainer's technical finesse. The physical component of the process, inserting the needle against the resistance of the metal, imparts a visible and tangible dynamism to the works. Linear bundlings, intersections, delicate cobweb-like, and robustly fibrillating lines emerge.
